Comments: Well, i may be a blow-hard, but i don't think i'm that long windedů

that said:

i didn't say it sucked or i hated it or that it wasn't fun. it IS good, i was just surprised at how many thought it was the "best" 5.11's at rumney.

if you think "apocalypse later" is fabulous, great! (i'd like to point out there are a also large number of people who do think painting on black velvet of dogs playing poker is "fine art." really, who am i to argue???)

since i'm generally a really easy grader, i... more >>

Comments: "favorite 5.11..."

"definitely in the top three..."

maybe, i have a prejudice about the "meadows" areas of rumney being "ghetto," but I can't help but disagree...

i have a really hard time putting this route in the same category as "flying hawaiian," or "tropicana" (running both both pitches together,) or "black mamba" (again, doing both pitches together,) or "lions, tigers and bears" (either the straight up finish or the "oh my!" finish, or "stoned temple pilot," or "finland," or "northwest... more >>

i'm sorry if i sound like a "jerk" but a better idea would be to simply replace the "really sharp carabiner" with one of your own.

after all, someone else: cleaned the route for you, bolted the route, for you,... more >>

Comments: Mark, you caught me: I was just having a little "fun with botany."

The "Latin name" of Arugula is Eruca sativa. If i remember correctly, "Eruca" is from Latin meaning some sort of cabbage and "sativa" means something like "cultivated" or "grown."

And perhaps, I was having mild hallucinations. (I will say that many of the other responses in these Rumney forums have seemed a little "hallucinogenic" lately...)

Years ago, I had an after-dinner liquor made by an olde... more >>

Comments: Hard to tell from the photo; but, it may be another Becansoll classic, "Arugula, Arugula...."

A little background: "Arugula" is a vegetable frequently used as a salad green and is popular in Italian cuisine. It's also known as "rocket" or "rucola," depending how pretentious the restaurant serving the salad is...

I believe argula is related to sativa and may be slightly hallucinogenic.

As for the grade; it felt easier than "Far from Feral" but harder th... more >>

Comments: I'll agree it was great that no one was hurt...

But, I'm having a very hard time seeing this as a battle in an "ethical war," rather than a case of someone who didn't take personal responsibility for his actions and safety and made a bad mistake.

Fortunately, he was very, very lucky.

The draws on "Man Overboard" have been there for a long time, too long... Was it responsible behavior to blindly trust a piece of gear that has been technically "abandoned" for years?

Obviously, there were oth... more >>

Comments: 1) i didn't bolt the route, so don't blame me....
that said:
2) i didn't know that bolts were forbidden in "wilderness areas," i thought bolts placed with "power drills" were forbidden...

sounds like the usfs need to do a better job in letting the rest of us (you know, the tax payer types who fund the usfs...) exactly what we can and cant do on public land....

Comments: "The quick clips on War and Peace at Bonsai and Dolt at Hinterlands need to be replaced ASAP as they are quite worn..."

i'm sure i'm violating all of the guidelines for this forum; but, this sort of post drive me crazy. if something "needs" to be done, maybe you should just do it yourself...

i realize it was meant as a "heads up," public service announcement. but, to me they always sound like a "work order" given so the "rumney maintenance staff" can get busy and fix it.

there is ... more >>
