Comments: Many years ago I tried top roping this route. My goal was to go up as straight as possible in the shallow seam and avoid traversing left into Ankles Away as I didn't like the idea of mixing the routes. I made it pretty far up, going up somewhat right past where you would do the traverse, but then reached a really blank spot which looked to last about 10 feet or so, after which the climbing appeared to ease up, but only slightly. Try as I may, I couldn't... more >>

Comments: On Feb 8 of "86 Bob Yoho and I did a route on the left side of the Financial Wall where there is a thin face leading up to a hand crack. It was called "Taxed to the Limit" 5.12-

We also did "The Speculator" 5.11+ which is the obvious central crack leading up to the body slot.

And most difficult was "The Crash" which is the left leaning corner (just right of The Speculator") w... more >>

Comments: Here are my notes as written back then.

98. White Knuckles 5.10C Herb Laeger, Dennis Knuckles Jan 24 1987
This route climbs the steep dark face on excellent rock past two bolts just left of Imaginary Voyage. (I drilled the bolts)

Comments: On the first ascent of this route Phil Goede and I had very little gear and it became quite exciting. Phil was so scared watching me he barfed before starting. A fun route with the right gear and an exciting exit going around the Sarcophagus lid.

Comments: The name "The Howling" came from a horror movie with the same name. Not a bad flick, check it out sometime.

Comments: As I remember this climb, it did not start on TS but had its own start on the steeper face to the right. I remember it as a pretty good climb and I named it Second Thoughts because the second has second thoughts on the second pitch. The third pitch is extremely short and gets to the top. I also don't remember the pro being very serious. Perhaps people should take another look at this one, or perhaps I should have my head examined. It was a long time ago.

Comments: This was the last route that Eve and I climbed at Seneca before moving to Californa....hence the name. Seneca has a special place in my heart...it's almost heaven. I hope it hasn't changed very much.

Comments: Here are a few more routes on this wonderful formation which I have recovered from my notes.

CHIMNEY ROCK

Big Boys don’t Cry 5.10-5.11??, Herb Laeger, Dick Saum a long time ago.
This route is on the main big face of Chimney Rock. As I remember it, this route starts in a wide crack chimney then moves left and eventually leads to a corner below the obvious roof which is then passed and leads to the summit. Exciting climbing, multiple pitches.

Comments: Leversee was not on the first ascent. I have added several more routes to this formation (more difficult) on the opposite side. Will have to check my notes and update the routes there.
