Comments: Edit: Justin, your first post made it sound like you did the mortaring. If you say you didn't do it, I take you at your word, my apologies. I was just voicing my opinion that using mortar for climbing rocks is complete BS (as is chiseling). Carry on.

Comments: Just to update the anchor situation, a new shared anchor was added for this route and River Dance. A 60m rope is plenty.

Love all the old classic shots you post, C Miller! Keep 'em coming, please.

Comments: Now that's a FIRE! I was at Shelf that day and saw the huge, black smoke plume and thought WTF is going on over there? If I remember right, dameeser said it was an electrical fire.

Comments: If you were using Jason's new book, I see how you would do that. I just noticed he shows FF stopping short at the Chocolate Thunder anchors. If you stop there, you'll miss out on one of the coolest parts of the route, IMO.

Comments: I always thought the last 20' of the route stepping off the mini-ledge at the dead tree to the top was a bit heady. Face moves to flaring finger crack with a not-so-great small cam for pro.

Comments: Nice long pitch with fun climbing. Squeeze chimney at the top (not an OW) is a cool change of pace for Shelf.

Comments: Heads up, someone removed the 3rd and 5th bolts on this route. The hangers were removed and the bolts just pounded into the hole and left like that. While I understand the sentiment bei.e.: epoxy & dirt to camo). Bring an extra cam or two now, and you'll be good to go.

Comments: Amazing arete climbing! One of the best .10s at Shelf in my opinion. Heads up - the second bolt hanger has been mangled by a rock and is bent over pretty good. If anyone is planning on doing this route, maybe bring a hanger & wrench to replace it. Threads were rusted, so it could be a PITA & need a new bolt installed.

Comments: FA Bill Schmausser. The bolting is on the sporty side if you don't take any supplemental gear. Some micro nuts, a green & red Camalot make it less runout.

Comments: Definitely not photo shopped, that is the original pic. The flash came on so it brightened up the rock for sure. This killer .11+ crack route is located on Mt. Herman near Monument, Co.
Here's my theory: this splitter crack bisects a 60' free standing pillar which has a perfect bird of prey flat hangout spot on the summit. I think that some big ass bird like a turkey vulture or golden eagle got a hold of a grey fox carcass and sat up there and ate it. Over time it worked it's way down the crack ... more >>

Comments: Some asshole took the biners at the anchors. Currently there are single quicklinks on the hangers. If anyone is planning on doing this route soon, you may want to bring a couple extra links so your rope won't get twisted to shit.
