Comments: Looks like glue-ins were added by a generous individual alongside the older bolts.

Note: some of the fixed draws look pretty manky, with worn bottom and top biners: a couple of the rope-grooved biners were just switched to the top biner!

I'm going to bring a few project draws to replace the ones that are there next time I'm out, but if you're there in the interim, take care.

Comments: A beautiful runnel that climbs just exactly as it looks. Well worth it! But don't break an ankle - the landing is kind of bad.

Comments: Sorry the directions didn't get you there. You don't pass by Lefty on the trail up to the Chaos boulders. The boulder/wall with Lefty on it is off to the left, out of sight of the trail, as you head up hill towards Chaos.

Comments: Love the discussion. No US grading system works great for grading short cracks. The best you can say, I think, is like Travis Eiseman is quoted as saying in the guide, "that would be like the crux on a 5.X route". Even that doesn't work very well, bc the grade of a trad pitch has a lot to do with pump and sometimes the additional pump of placing gear, depending on the local mindset.

For Crack of Doom, a boulderer with little crack experience could make this a v6. And a crack climber with littl... more >>

Comments: I never posted that I got back on this in the spring this year for a couple of goes and did all the moves. I didn't red point, but agree it's probably something like 13-/13.
Pretty good stuff for Sand Wing.

Comments: Broken hold! It is the crux crimp that came off, leaving a smaller sharp little fella. Now it's kind of goofy, I think. I can't decide if I strongly dislike it, or if I think it's actually kind of fun. Not super aesthetic, but I did enjoy it. You still get that cool body positioning action at the beginning.

Comments: Yeah, I think it's still "The Rail" even if you use holds to the side. It's never felt like a clear line to me. I have done it a handful of ways, and just think to myself that it's 'probably "The Rail" as long as it feels roughly v3, and I use the big rail hold at some point while I'm climbing'. The finish up the arete is the fun part anyway.

Comments: Thanks Andrew! Hm. Id never seen anyone climb it, or a video or anything. So I started lower than the original. I think the first couple of moves did add a touch of difficulty. Great FA.

Comments: Right. No camping in the parking lot. Just look for the designated camping area once on top of the hill. It's huge and not a bad place. Sunny.
Get a pass (phone or online, and it's a decent price), bury your human waste (helpful to have a trowel), pick up your garbage (and that of others), and try to keep the night time screaming to a minimum.
