Comments: Now has 3 bolts, #1 I should note is in rock that is rapidly exfoliating so I would skip this one entirely and stick-clip #2 instead. Ice did not form in 2005-06 season. An okay route if the ice from next to #3 bolt.

Comments: This route was rather erased by an unfortunate rock-fall incident in 2004, the big block in the picture which the guy is pulling on came down in a big way. In March of 2006, much of the remaining loose rock was cleared and the route was renovated, much of the upper 2/3 of the dry-tooling is the same although the start is now much safer albeit still strenuous. Probably M10, has only 4 bolts now and clipping #4 is a Lulu. Very campus-like, hard. Now referred to as "Infernal Machine", rather ... more >>

Comments: There are 3 bolts actually, although a drop near the Secret Stash ice would probably be a grounder or close to it, so a 4th bolt would be handy. The key starter flake on the left is loose, so don't pull this feature off, don't pry on it. Kind of a boulder problem with some bolts, careful not to blow #2, and don't scalp your belayer.

Comments: The 3 bolt start is actually pretty good, nice moves although #3 is in a whonky spot. Chopping these bolts is only going to mutilate the rock and frankly I don't see how, now that they are in, these bolts offer any more visual impact than those placed tediously by hand, they are actually rather hard to pick out. Mind you I am not encouraging power-drill use in the Park or other wild areas where they are prohibited, indeed I heard at the time that the blokes who Bosched this thing could nay... more >>

Comments: I made a solo ascent of this route in February 1997 ('98?), I went up the ice bit at the bottom, so I haven't done the mixed start. This is one of the best "long" routes I have done in CO (along with Bridalveil), a good, steep, relatively remote and serious route. I am not really clear on why this alternate start keeps receiving a new bolt. A friend of mine did this mixed start last season and informed me that the 1st bolt had been chopped. Also, that the dry-tooling was pretty reasonable. Am I ... more >>
