Comments: Contrived, and although the guide gives it V5, it felt little more that 5.9 walking up the slab.

Weird.

Comments: Steep at the start and delicate at the top.

Comments: The grade is the same but going from left to right does feel easier.

Comments: Felt hard for V3, but perhaps that was because the fingers weren't warmed up!

Comments: There is no real run out factor. The only pitch that may grab your attention is the very first one since you step onto the route and have immediate exposure (lots of exposure) for a balancy traverse.

Comments: Yeah it is a good problem. I got on it for the first time in Feb this year. Didn't get it but I will be back for sure.

Comments: The topo doesn't show the best line. The problem climbs much better if you go straight over the bulge avoiding the large gash on the right. It goes up and basically follows the skyline of the photo.

Comments: My beta was not the same as James' as I stayed left then move up right later. Definately felt harder than V3. The right beta seemed to need a long reach to the starting moves of the stand start.

Comments: As per description it is a traverse that finished up Bumble Bee making up the 25'.

Comments: With good footwork you actually don't pull very hard on that small pocket.

Location: CA : Joshua Tree National Park : *Joshua Tree Bouldering* : Outback Bouldering : Iron Door Cave Boulder : IDC Problem (V2)
By: Euan Cameron When: Feb 10, 2013

Comments: The rock quality has cleaned up nicely and all the holds are solid (well, maybe the thin flake for the right at the start is a little crunchy).

Movement is nice all the way up.

Comments: You can also climb directly above the starting holds for a slightly easier variation.

Comments: As of today this problem is broken. Unfortunately I pulled the starting left hand hold clean of the wall - soft grit indeed.

Comments: The stand is fairly straightforward, but the sit requires a strong core for the brutal first move up to the small hands jam 3/4 of the way up the crack.

Comments: It is possible to boulder many of the routes here, just make sure to bring pads and a spotter or two.

Comments: The underclings are not hidden by the bush. They are to the left and 7' off the deck.

Comments: The topo is wrong. The Guidebook Writer's Love-in starts to the left at the large undercling 7' of the deck. Also Viva Dead Mules trends right.

Comments: An early start on cool winter mornings is best for the harder problems here since the rock can get warm during the day making the smears treacherous.

Comments: The crux is short lived but the moves are good.
