Comments: Be ready for loose stuff beyond the ledges. My wife pulled a chunk as large as her torso off this one. This along with the descent from the route makes you forget that the climbing is actually pretty good.
I used two cams as directionals for the second and stoppers exclusively for protection. Solid placements the entire way.

Comments: This route is not in the new guidebook. Mitten's Revenge is labled as 22 Minutes Till Closing in the book.

Comments: If you're going to Pilot from Charlotte (or south or west of Statesville), the following route will get you there in the same amount of time without having to drive through Winston-Salem.
Go north on I-77 to exit 85 (268 Bypass). Make a right and follow this for 3 miles to a stop sign. Go left at the stop onto Rte. 268. Follow this for 20 miles to U.S. 52. Go south on U.S. 52 for about 4 miles to the Pilot Mountain exit.

Comments: There is construction at the East end of the tunnel that will back up traffic and cause delays. Be ready to sit in your car for a while to wait to park. The estimated timeline for this construction is from September 11, 2006 to December 15, 2006.

Comments: The routes directly behind the toilets are aptly named "Toilet Cracks". Check the visitor center topos or topos at Zion Rock in Springdale. Not sure of the ratings or anything else.
I definitely found #3.5 and #4 cams very useful in the pod. I would have been happier with more than 4 #1s for the main crack. Fun route...excited to do it again.
Also, a 60m rope is not long enough to belay toprope from. A 70m rope would be just enough.

Comments: This is definitely a tough 5.9. Reachy, edgy holds over a bulge. A fall on this route could be pretty bad.
