Comments: Stellar route! Pitches 1 and 4 are definitely worth the hike in! Pitches 2 and 3 are quite good too.

We linked P1 and part of P2 to a pretty good belay stance in the corner. A purple c3 was useful for the roof crux (see rohanbk's comment). Our second belay was on the slab just before the chimney (half way up P3). Stepped into the chimney on P3 from the slab on the right (see Josh's comment), it was plenty solid.

Comments: One of my favorite routes!
  • I've heard you can link pitch 2 & 3.
  • I'd recommend linking the 11a and 10b pitches.
  • On the last pitch, don't go to the chains out right after the slab traverse, stay in the crack and you can reach the final anchors.

Instead of rappelling the Chockstone Route, you can rap down Labor Pains.
  • The first rappel shares the same anchor as the chockstone descent, but instead rappel down the face to some chain...

Comments: Climbed the Hitchhiker on 6/5/2016.

There are a couple bolted lines maybe five minutes from the saddle along the base of the wall. The Passenger and the Hitchhiker are a ways further. Does anyone know what these are?

We used Ian Nicholson's topo from the Washington Pass Climbing book. At the top of pitch 4 climb the juggy thing, not the crack in the corner. Linking pitches 5 & 6 is recommended. There were many more bolts than shown on the topo on pitch 7 getting up to the crux. Don't miss the ... more >>

Comments: At the 2nd (main) roof, it's harder if you stay straight in the crack & easier if you use the arete out left.

Comments: The flake didn't feel too hollow to me. I avoided the downward pointing trianglular tip (it definitely sounded hollow), but the rest seemed solid.

Comments: Date
We climbed Clean Break last weekend (6/6/2015).

Approach
Went up and over Burgundy Col, dropped down quite a bit on the back side, and traversed skiier's left for a while to the base of the climb.

Conditions
The snow was friendly. We glissaded the big drop just over Burgundy Col. Just brought axes, didn't need crampons.

The Route
Super fun! I'd definitely recommend doing it, and will definitely go back and repeat it at some point. The first pitch is great! I ... more >>
