Comments: The Bulkhead is the proud dark brown triangular blockoverlooking the Rattlesnake Forks area. The two routes on it are "Exiled in Sweden" 5.10d ** and "Bulkhead Arete" 5.10b R **. Both routes climb great brown varnish.

Hike up Rattlesnake until past the waterfall area and makethe turn to the west at Rattlesnake Forks. A couple hundred meters above and straddling the faint ridge is the Bulkhead.

Comments: This route (Grand Theft Avocado) is named after a funny event that happened to Spencer and Alan Lennard when in high school. They, devout vegetarians, were visiting an Avo grove near their home in Orange, CA for the purposes of collecting Avo's (the fallen ripe ones on the ground, of course). While collecting, they were surprised by an Irvine Co. OC Sheriff who was not pleased by their trespassing on "Company" property (yes, the Irvine Co. has OC employees in their pockets). The officer insisted... more >>

Comments: The SW face has many fine routes on its left side including the old school slab testpieces "Trespassers Will Be Violated" 5.10c * PG/R and "Compassion of the Elephants" 5.10c * R. "Abstract Roller Disco" 5.11a PG is another challanging slab in the center section. "The Chair" sits atop the SW face right side where the interesting roof routes "Roofing Company"5.10a * and "Monkey Business" 5.8 * are. However, it is the shady or northern facing sections that have some of Little Hunk's best routes. S... more >>

Comments: Yes, this route is borderline 5.9 now, passing the first bolt is the crux. Let's call it 5.6+.

Comments: Somebody, who shall remain nameless, told me they added a bolt up high where it was a bit runout on 5.8. Maybe he was just trying to get a rise out of me! I did paint my hangers blue back then, so, if all the bolts replaced by Chris were blue, maybe none were added.

Comments: I think Randy has forgotten that I was on the FA as well and placed one of the bolts, the second one. It was the only time that I ever climbed with Paul.

Comments: This is a great area when it is cold and windy. Very sheltered with many good routes in the 5.8-5.11 range. The rock varies from excellant to ok.It is another good area for children.

Comments: I led it for the second time last season and it felt 5.9++ to me. The first time I did it it felt more like 5.8 (5 or so years ago). It is a very good route.

Comments: This route is rated in Todd's "5.8 deserves more respect" 5.8 rating. More like 5.9 or 10a. Similar to the "5.8's" at Outer Mongolia.

Comments: To my knowledge Dr. "Q" has never dropped a climbing partner and is completely competant and confidant with a hip belay. "Gri-gri's are for gym climbers"!, said he (I think that is what I heard him say).

Comments: We did a Needles rappel on the FA. I sagged off one side while Margy rapped the other, then she tied off the rope and I rapped my side.
