Comments: Is this mismarked in the photo? The marked route was originally a 10b route that traversed off left (Tobin? Mike Wah?). Then the 11b finish was a tr section. Or, has it been bolted up and renamed?

Comments: Some of us might prefer to treat this thing as a route. Leading it with pro would prevent the dreaded grounfall potential as it is OTD. Just because John soloed it on the FA.....after all he soloed Leave It To Beav as well!!!

Comments: The story goes that Gram's body was hijacked from his funeral by his bro's and they cremated him at the base.

Location: CA : Joshua Tree National Park : Sheep Pass Area : Hall of Horrors Area : Hall of Horrors : ... : Jessica's Crack (5.6) By: David Evans When: Jan 27, 2005 | view comment >> |
Comments: I named this route after an early (neurotic) girlfriend (well at least I thought I wanted her as such) who done me wrong. On the FA the crack was VERY loose (like her). It must have cleaned up to get any stars at all.

Comments: You could belay right after the hand traverse as the rope drag after the hand traverse is BAD.

Location: CA : Joshua Tree National Park : Indian Cove : Rattlesnake Canyon : Iceberg Boulder By: David Evans When: Aug 25, 2004 | view comment >> |
Comments: Sounds like the Iceberg Boulder ought to be called "Pincushion Boulder" or "Grid Pattern Boulder" now. Doesn't sound too pretty.

Comments: This route is actually around on the side that almost faces north. The arete mentioned is the dividing line between the west and north face.

Comments: The small photo shows the section with 1B1RP etc. The large top photo shows the left hand crag with "My President is Addicted To War."

Location: CA : Joshua Tree National Park : Split Rocks : Isles in the Sky : Pinky and the Brain (5.9) By: David Evans When: Mar 30, 2004 | view comment >> |
Comments: 5.10b4me, ratings are intended to give an on-site leader an idea how hard something is. Following or top roping is easier than leading (although a route with that much pro isn't much different for leader or follower). Also repeating a route makes it easier. I had just noticed that the picture showed you on a tr. Had you just led it on site and called it 5.8? If so your rating stands and I apoligize.

Location: CA : Joshua Tree National Park : Indian Cove : Rattlesnake Canyon : Indian Country : Tribal Gambling (5.10d) By: David Evans When: Mar 22, 2004 | view comment >> |
Comments: It is actually about 40' on the thin part. The photo does foreshorten it quite a bit! Not to mention that we did 3 pitches (for a total of about 120' of climbing).

Location: CA : Joshua Tree National Park : Sheep Pass Area : Hall of Horrors Area : Hall of Horrors : ... : Jessica's Crack (5.6) By: David Evans When: Mar 17, 2004 | view comment >> |
Comments: This route was not named after Jessica (?) who was Bullwinkle's girlfriend for awhile. It is named after an early slutty girlfriend of mine who had just rejected me in favor of a big geeky knucklehead (Bearamiah Butt Fu..). Not that I'm still bitter! The route at the time of my FA solo was loose and pilish.

Location: CA : Joshua Tree National Park : Indian Cove : Rattlesnake Canyon : Cactus City By: David Evans When: Mar 3, 2004 | view comment >> |
Comments: Went to Cactus City with a true local, Mr. Todd Gordon, and he turned us on to a better approach. Go up Rattlesnake Canyon until JUST past the Pyramid. Turn right and scramble up to a notch. From the notch the large face of Cactus City is visible. Head on over!
