Comments: Any consensus on whether the route photo is actually of Linkage or of this Unnamed 5.10?

mountainproject.com/v/unnamed/...

I don't have the Bloom guide book handy, and I've heard that it has some mistakes for routes at the far right of the wall (starting around Collision Course maybe?).

I climbed the pictured route a couple of days ago and found the offwidth to be burly and a bit hard to protect without a #5 or #6 Camalot. A 70m is fine for rapping or TR. A TR h... more >>

Comments: I left some bright electric yellow 8mm cord and two carabiners around a tree for a rap anchor, maybe 30 feet down into the descent gully on Saturday, 2012-08-25. I don't need them back or anything, but if they are still there, that date should make it easier to decide whether to use them or clean them up (and/or booty the heavy 'biners).

Comments: The culverts (large water tubes) under the dam are blocked by sediment and debris. This means that water flows over the dam instead of through/under it. I imagine that on a hot summer day this stream crossing is refreshing, but at the beginning of December it was absolutely frigid and painful. On December 4th the water was about 3 inches deep and flowing at a moderate rate.

Besides the cold water itself, the concrete conducts a significant amount of heat away from your feet. On top of all o... more >>

Comments: We did Caver's but didn't bring a copy of the route description up with us, so we accidentally got off of the "main" route and onto the main variation instead. This is basically the same as Matt Thorum's Jun 14 description for the first two pitches. But we didn't see the hole to enter the cave/chimney at the start of P3, so we continued straight upwards into a very narrow squeeze chimney and out through a rectangular hole about 2 feet high by 2 feet wide.

Pick your route carefully through the... more >>

Comments: The crack widens to take a C4 #3 right before the crack leans right and becomes much more positive. IIRC the rest of the crack is pretty solid C4 #1 below that, so make sure to bring enough gear in that size range.

Comments: Bring some tricams if you want more solid pro. There are a lot of horizontals for placing pro, but in the upper section of the tower the horizontals aren't very parallel-sided and often flare outwards. I got a C4 #0.75 in a gently flaring horizontal maybe 10-15 feet down from the top-out as my final piece, but it was a bit sandy and I'm not sure it would hold a fall from the top. Luckily the climbing is pretty easy if you feel along the right edge of the face.

Comments: There are two side-by-side bolts in the vertical face at the top of this route for anchoring. If you're paranoid about using just two bolts for some reason, there's a third bolt on a horizontal rock face 3-4 feet back and a foot up from these two main bolts. Otherwise the third bolt plus a double-length sling makes a decent safety tether when climbing down to rig the main bolts for a top rope or a rappel down.

Comments: When we were here on 2011-08-14, the south entrance to the park was mostly blocked off with construction barricades a bit outside the normal barrier and then the main barrier itself was closed. This is the entrance closest to the Sentinel. There was enough of a space for us to get between the construction barricades and park in a couple of the 3-4 parking spaces outside of the barrier by the water spring. We didn't get towed or ticketed, but I have no idea if it was legit to actually park the... more >>

Comments: The bottom half is easier than the top half. I found the middle third very pumpy and a bit tricky to find gear placements, although they definitely are there. I don't own any tri cams, but I feel like they would have been useful in a couple of places on this route because of all of the narrow-ish pockets.

Comments: Ditto Gary's comments. The route description seems wrong, but the photo looks right to me. There's another photo of First Crack listed incorrectly as Second Crack here.

I thought this was a really fun trad lead. The upper two thirds of the climb takes stoppers really well, so you don't need a big rack to lead this one.

There are only three downsides that I see to the route. One is that there is a lot of small loose rock and dirt to knock down on your belayer if you're not care... more >>

Comments: I agree that the main route description photo is incorrect (it shows First Crack). My comments below refer to Second Crack, which is to the left about 10-15 feet from the route pictured in the main photo. The other submitted photos look right to me.

I top roped it on Sunday and found it an enjoyable easy route. This would probably be a good route for new climbers. I didn't lead it, but IIRC the pro would have been mainly in the large crack on your right (mostly #3 Camalot and bigger, ... more >>
