Comments: If it's the crag I'm thinking of... Baldwin bolted the two sport climbs and I put up a trad one as well. All had anchors. I'll talk to Jeff and find out his names.

This was one of the first three bolted routes in Maple Canyon.
SNL did a skit with the name. Probably one of their funniest skits in history. Here's a link to the transcript.

Comments: Really, this is a good as 5.8 gets. Super steep and pumpy on fantastic rock. You could wish it were longer, but that's typically the wish of every climb you get on, and it wouldn't be 5.8 if it were.

Comments: I added the first pitch to this climb today and if you do it as one long pitch it definitely goes up to four stars, at least for me.

Location: UT : Wasatch Range : Rock Canyon : The Appendage : Crisco Crack (5.7) By: Darren Knezek When: May 30, 2009 | view comment >> |
Comments: I thought that this was a fun climb with a couple of thin hand jams and a few tricky finger-locks. I would have given it more stars but for three reasons: 1). It's a little dirty. 2). It's a little loose. 3). It's named after Burrell.
Wait...
4). Put the chains in and they will come...

Comments: The guidebook says, "Park at the end of the road, and then backtrack on foot 100' to the trail..."
It should say," Park at the end of the road, and the trail is up and to your left."
Many climbers get lost here, backtrack down the road and end up in between Pocket Rocks and Sprocket Rocks.

This climb has two eliminations to make it the 10d grade. You can't use any of the crack or the left wall of Right Corner, and you can't use the right arete, as that's another route put up before this one.
It was named after a climber who never called a route by its name, but by its grade.
Contrived, greasy, pumpy, historic- what more is there to ask for in a climb?
