Comments: Nick & I met at the First Pullout and as we discussed doing a long route (The Nose), I told him of a crack that I had scoped out. He was game to look at it and after doing so, we went back to the truck and got our gear. Nick led the route, I followed it (barely) and he named it as well - can you guess what size TCU he used to protect the crux of the route? This was the first route done at the Fixx Cliff.

Comments: Great route!! The corner is super thin for us fat-fingered folk. At the pine tree, it looked tempting to go out right and climb the crack to the roof, but I foolishly went up the corner.... Happy to send again. A double set of cams from .4" to 1.5" in addition to a standard rack should do for the route. The belay takes big pieces - about 3.5" and larger. We 3rd classed (downclimbed) off.

Comments: This route originally had two bolts as well as a fixed Knife Blade placed on the lead by the FA party for pro. My climbing partner did take a fall above the second bolt (but, to her defense, she hadn't climbed for about six months previous) and did break her nose. The fixed knife blade before the first bolt has been removed, but you might be able to place a small RP in that same placement. If you think you've finished the route once you've reached the two bolt anchor, keep in mind that it didn't... more >>

Comments: Brad Stewart & I did the FA on this route on 2-25-86, according to an old topo. Brad got the name from a route at Smith Rocks. Several months earlier Brad Ball and I were hiking north past Kilimanjaro 5.10d, when he spotted the route and said that he was going to do the FA solo. He let it go (too long) and, eventually I told Brad Stewart about it - he drew the short straw and got the lead. He graded it at 5.10b and after looking at the backs of my hands, I couldn't argue. Located about 300 yards... more >>

Comments: Got any beta like.... location? We tried a new route, just to the left of M&M in the corridor last Saturday and we're wondering if this is the same route.

Comments: We did this route recently (08/14/2009) and, since it has been re-bolted, you are now able to climb left of the original line and take advantage of a couple of serious "no hands" rests in the huecos that lead up to the the thin crux with the "slightly overhung fingerlock". I guess this is why the route has been given an easier grade and we felt that the 5.10b grade was spot on. You can still do the original direct finish by going up to the massive glue-in bolt, clipping it, and climbing d... more >>

Comments: I'm under the impression that this route's called The Heavy Hitter, I don't know, I could be wrong but........ Bottom line is that it is a really good route and general consensus on the grade seems to be 5.10c. Enjoy.
