Location: CO : Alpine Rock : RMNP - Rock : Petit Grepon : Southwest Corner (5.9) By: Danika When: Aug 17, 2005 | view comment >> | Comments: Climbed this on Aug. 9. We ended up going up and left instead of up and right at the beginning of the crux pitch, thus taking the left "roof" rather than the right. It is actually a large overhanging flake, that then resulted in some VERY airy moves right up the [arete]. Ended up being about 5.9 as well, but gear was not that great... due to rock quality and decent placements.

Location: CO : Alpine Rock : RMNP - Rock : Glacier Gorge : Arrowhead : Artemis (5.9) By: Danika When: Jul 14, 2003 | view comment >> | Comments: Clyde Frog Splitters variation pitch is excellent. Great finger locks with an unbeatable view. Wish we had done the lower variation Jason and Justin took - the opening pitches of Artemis lack the excitement of the upper wall. I thought the move past the roof on the 3rd pitch (lower part of the main corner) was pretty exciting, although my partners had no problem following it. Maybe it was just the gravel and lichen, or maybe my poor roof climbing skills..., it can be protected fine with smal... more >>

Location: CO : Alpine Rock : RMNP - Rock By: Danika When: May 13, 2003 | view comment >> | Comments: Latest update from the Park service (as of 5/12) is construction will begin sometime in the second or third week of June. The road will stay open until then. They said the construction may start rather abruptly, so be aware the road may close quickly. Once construction begins, the road will be closed from Sprague Lake to ALL personal travel (no bikes in construction zone). The shuttle bus will run from 5am-10pm, every 30 minutes. It will run all the way to the Bear Lake parking lot, stoppin... more >>

Location: CO : Estes Park Valley : Lumpy Ridge : The Book : Isis Buttress : Living Dead (5.11b) By: Danika When: Sep 16, 2002 | view comment >> | Comments: The left of the two pins at the top [first pitch] could use replaced. It's solid now, but looks a bit dubious. Would have done it yesterday if we'd had one in our crew... If you head up there to do this, take pliers to move the chain to the new pin as well.
Also agree that the top anchor could use some fresh webbing - and a bit of re-adjustment. [Slings are at the top of the second pitch (same finish as for Dead Dog Direct).] As it is now, most of the weight is taken by the backup knot s... more >>

Location: CO : Gunnison : Black Canyon : South Rim Routes : Astro Dog (5.11+) By: Danika When: Sep 5, 2002 | view comment >> | Comments: When I did this route last fall (late Sept.) there was a somewhat dubious looking fixed nut in the lower section of the 11+ crux pitch - essentially just when you're getting into the "fun stuff".Since then, I've also heard that it may indeed be gone. There is gear to be found however. My partner did an excellent job through the crux, calmly placing a small TCU mid-way through the toughest section of the flare. Have to admit though that I'm anxious about this section when I head back to do this... more >>
