Comments: Yo, Asscherick!

You ran up a ladder 32 times! SWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!! Any climbing is good climbing, right!?! I'm really excited for you. You should seriously post some pics of you climbing that ladder, dude! Pictures and stuff help to motivate when the weather's this crappy.

  • Rain, rain go away; come again on a rest day* (opera-style singing)

Rock on!

Love Always,

The Veal Chop

PS. Renegades: when are you coming back down to Baldy? I need a good laugh. Oh, and yo... more >>

Comments: Eric,

That crack is dirty, but good. 5.10+/5.11- or so, I thought. Makes for an interesting top-rope. Not sure if it's been done on lead. Fun--once you get over how dirty it is and suss out the moves. There's a 5.8 around the corner that is super fun. And then you walk around to the stuff you were talking about that Mike was doing. As far as names go, keep searching; I have yet to hear what they are called.

Dan

PS. I am of absolutely no help...you're welcome. :)

Comments: !!CAUTION!!

A rattlesnake has been spotted on Mount Baldy within the last two days around the Lillypad Boulder. Exercise caution when in that area. Keep your dogs on a leash, too; the local vets don't need anymore visits.

Comments: Feels V8--or really fingery V7. Great problem. Must do if you are in the area. Pounder McNasty makes this look like a warm-up and that rocks my pants in a good way.

Comments: Yeah, he does make it look taller. It's too bad this problem doesn't have three or four more hard moves and about ten more feet...then it'd be the best on Baldy. Too short. But we could always put in a Lay Down Start?!?!

Comments: No, Greg. You are not retarded. You are retardedly strong, though. You just don't realize how strong you are, Greg. There's nothing wrong with that. Glad you enjoyed the climbing. Come back more often!

Comments: Blake's problem--a combination of two V7s--is called "Pollyhogs." It's a good problem. But, V5? That's just plain ridiculous. If that's V5, then we need to regrade ALL the V5s on Baldy.

Comments: Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah, this route isn't on the Chopping Block per se. It's at Inner Outlet at Sylvan Lake.

Brad, you should've seen Verdell the other day after you left. He was SOOOOO tired! He hadn't drank any water in...must've been eight hours, and he hadn't eaten since the night before. He was practically passing out!! He's funny like that--passing out when he's severely dehydrated. I just yelled at him to move whenever he woke up and he did...kind of--he twitched. It was ... more >>

Comments: Brad! You're nowhere near the Chopping Block, silly! You are in Gillette! So, is Valdez Overhang in Monster then? Or is it at Sylvan Lake!? How about South Seas? Which area is it closest to? Oh, now I am all mixed-up. See what you've done, you big gerbil. :)

Comments: This very well might be the worst climb in the Midwest...maybe. Awkward placements and funky, dirty movement makes this route definitely NOT worth doing. It is on par for Minnesota climbing, but even Minnesota has better cracks!

Comments: Well said, Eric. Your comment is probably the most eloquently stated thought on this site. Thanks for the words.

There's something to be learned from Eric's comments, in my opinion. Newbie to veteran, 5.8 climber to 5.15 climber...we all need access to the rock to enjoy rock climbing, and until we put our unjustly inflated egos aside and work in unison towards a common goal (without demanding identities, without issuing ulitmatums) we jeopardize any chances of continuing to climb in these am... more >>

Comments: Kortazone,

You should be able to find a guidebook at one of the stores in the area (e.g., Granite Sports in Hill CIty and Adventure Sport in Rapid City). I believe they are running around $16.

The climbing in the canyon isn't usually suited for beginners; however, there are some routes here and there in some areas that are at that level. This should not deter you, though. Your best bet for finding an area with a mixture of beginning and intermediate climbing is at Skeletal Remains... more >>

Comments: Dear Anonymous, I can respect the motives behind posting anonymously; it may be the only way to address issues without the politics getting involved, as you said, when they are always in such abundance. So to spark further discussion...I am not exactly for or against your suggestions: I would like to see more development and safer climbing in the Needles; however, there is something to be said about the Needles being a last bastion for run-out, traditional face climbing. Comments: Oh, Brad. Do I hear (or read, rather) a hint of jealousy in your voice (typing)? Don't be jealous! Just because you are a scaredy-cat on highballs and can't do such technically challenging boulder problems like the superhuman "Little Monster" doesn't mean no one else in the climbing community can, you know. That problem took me a LONG time to send. Many hours of working out the moves, not to mention the number of people I dragged out of bed at the wee hours of the morn (I am Mr. Morning Per... more >>

Comments: There are 11 bolts for the first pitch and 7 bolts for the second pitch, and you need some stoppers up on the second pitch. You need about 200 feet of rope to do this climb in one push (that's why it's two pitches), so it's a two rope rappel to get down with a 60m rope. You can also clip into the "Weird Water" anchors with a longer set of runners to make this a more comfortable belay on top.

Comments: Does this use the bad slopers up and right with the right hand, then go to the crimps with the left?
