Comments: Watch for loose rock. Even the big boulder (right before the route goes vertical) moved when I torqued on it.

Comments: To add a little spice to this route, try the Wittich Crack variation (5.6). It is the obvious crack that starts about 10 feet before reaching the belly crawl. P1, follow the crack to an obvious ledge under a roof. P2, climb past two fixed pins out and around the roof to the left and up easy climbing to the catwalk. Stay as straight as possible to avoid heinous rope drag. Awesome route and a lot of fun.

Comments: The expanding sea of houses has made access easier, at least for now. No need to go around on Dynamite and 128th. From Pima Road, turn east on Happy Valley; right on E. Alameda; right on 119th Way; take your next two lefts (E. Casitas and E. Paraiso). The pavement will end and you're at the base of Gardeners Wall/Tom's Thumb area.

Comments: As of May 16, 2007, someone has stretched a wire fence along both sides of the dirt roadway and posted "Private Property No Trespassing" signs. The old dam is also gone, and there are survey markers all around. Does anyone have information about access issues?

Comments: Notice signs have been posted, announcing City Council meetings to address abandoning access easements in this area. Meetings are scheduled for March 14, 2007 at 5:00 pm and March 22, 2007 at 1:00 pm at Scottsdale City Hall. Not sure what effect these meetings will have on access to climbing areas, but there is definitely some new activity here. Get to these meetings if you can, and watch for opportunities to help protect access to the McDowells.
