No, I am not stoned! I had just pulled a huge boulder loose right before topping out. Yep, it scared me.

Comments: A very fun climb! One thing...there were some very loose, large rocks/small boulders right before you top out on the climb. This sort of concerned me, so right as I topped out John Bicknell took a photo of me. I look really goofy. It is because I had just pulled a large boulder that moved and then topped out. I started wondering if the entire thing could just crumble down beneath our feet. I will post the photo, but I have no idea what I was thinking at the time! Climbed in early August, ... more >>

Comments: This was late Sept. I also took the pic of the clouds shrouding Notchtop. It was the same morning. After we got past pitch three, it starting raining and very gusty, and then the ropes froze. So, we were committed. On the summit, we were blown off our feet, literally. The scariest thing was making the traverse over to the descent gully without being able to belay because of the wind and icy ropes.

Comments: Finally, someone has submitted beta on Stettner's! We climbed Stettner's and finished up with Kiener's in August 2000, but I could not remember all the pitches in detail. Great history and very good mountaineering route. History buffs will enjoy this climb as they visualize what the Stettner boys encountered on the climb. I climbed this route with John Bicknell and Dan Nifond in August 2000. After a few pitches, cold rain and hail nailed us down. After a spirited discussion, we decided to ... more >>

Comments: Last week we climbed the first few pitches of BTL and then switched over to the Love route at the top. Since the routes cross each other I was wondering just where the route is in proximity to the crux on Love we exited just right of the roof in a slot. Gillet's says BTL is about 30 feet left of that spot but at the Love crux all I could see to the right was a small arete or corner and everything was out of view after that. To get to the crux of Love you have to work your way up into a slot at ... more >>

Comments: I agree with David C. We climbed the route last week by taking the first few pitches of Better than Love and moving over to the Love route. I thought the second pitch of Better than Love was really great! The rest of the climbing was fairly easy until the roof crux exit. I find it interesting that most people think the crux exit on the roof was fairly easy. It was dry and I still found it difficult. I live at near sea level and had only climbed in Lumpy for one day and then went to this ro... more >>

Comments: Seconded Fantasy Ridge last week. Totally blows away the J Crack considering the route on whole. Climbed left and direct of the bolt on P2. I felt it was pushing 5.10 and I wondered at the time what the leader felt about the runout. We discussed it afterwards and both agreed it was awesome. This is a very fine route (and fun climb). Leaving P2 as it is keeps this route honest. Moving up left of the bolt on P2 I kept thinking the leader was in for some serious ouch if he peeled. This is c... more >>
