Comments: Jeff,
Your route name is The Kracken but in your photo you call it the Kranken. Haha. I kind of like the Kranken.

Comments: To whomever decided to go the extra mile and scratch the name and grade of this problem into the rock please refrain from doing more of this. The scratches are particularly lasting under an overhang where it doesn't weather as quickly. The kindergarten chicken scratch is ugly. The problem is in the Mountain Project App., people will find it. Digital data trumps scratching.

Comments: Actually... I think the thrush in the name came from another meaning; Thrush as in the birds ( Thrushes are plump, soft-plumaged, small to medium-sized birds, inhabiting wooded areas, and often feed on the ground. ). meh?
Cool photo though. Were you able to climb it?

Comments: Yeah, the tops of the boulders need some gardening from time to time. The vines and plants come back if the problems aren't climbed on frequently. The same goes for the Moonshine Boulder in the Shenandoah boulders. The topout is fantastic fun when it's clean but the vegetation creeps back down the slab to cover the lip if it isn't climbed on regularly.
Yeah, my beta tends to be different that most people because I'm tall.

Comments: It starts on the right side of the large jug rail and makes a huge move right to a jug in the face. You start on the same rail as A Walnuts Journey but move right. Check out the bouldering videos posted in the comments for Harpers Ferry. One of them has both of these problems in it so you can see the difference. They start around the 2 minute mark.

Comments: @JustLikePie12, Sounds like it's gone then. It use to block that area and you basically had to crawl out through the notch. There were also a bunch of vines hanging on the tree that made it difficulty to top out. Thanks for the beta on the hole in the ground and the need for pads.

Comments: @ Justlikepie12, in the photo you posted and in another photo that was posted for Bad Irish Accent, it looks like the big tree that was on the ledge (behind the climbers back) is gone. Is the tree still there? Thanks, haven't been out there in a while and was wondering if the tree fell.

Comments: Dan,
You are right, it's a trip and not many people visit that wall. It's mostly if you are looking for an adventure or have climbed everything else and need a change. You are probably one of a handful of people to ever go over there. You have any pictures to post of you on this route or Jagged Crack? That would be great to see.

Comments: Hey JJ,
I'm not sure which way you took to the top. If you scramble up the base of the cliff all the way to the top it really sucks. But if you take a side trail on the other side of the canal back almost underneath the route 34 bridge you will find a much gentler way to the top of the cliff. It doesn't help you when you have rapped in and are ready to leave and need to get your top rope gear but it is another option worth mentioning. The short option you mention was always something I avoided. ... more >>
