Comments: With the right tactics cleaning this on lower is just as easy as doing it on TR.

Comments: I've removed the cleaning biner as fixed gear in the park is illegal.

Comments: Do not DWS this route. The water line is only about 6-8 feet at the base of this route and there are boulders around.

Comments: Those should all be half inch wedges. It just needs to be tightened down. The bolt moving around in the hole doesn't mean that it's a bad bolt. It's to be expected.

Comments: Shut up Darlene. The only thing that takes away from this route is the fact that I just rap-freed it. Get on those dancing shoe and get on my level!

Comments: Yeah man, follow Mikey's 4-star route suggestions and you will have a great time. Please remember though that if you are sport climbing that it's best to take a stick-clip with you everywhere.

Comments: Yeah I was out there watching it, I think it was mostly hikers. You can park anywhere as long as your tires are not on the asphalt.

Comments: Good to know, my 60m sterling 9.2 did reach, so it all depends on your rope brand and length. Sounds like a 70m would be best for this climb. Thanks!

Comments: Yes, anything hanging on the rock for longer than 24 hours is technically not legal. Whoever leaves their draws on a route for longer than 24 hours takes the risk of having them poached by another climber or taken down by NPS, and this could cause more issues for the local climbing coalition with their dealings with NPS.

Comments: First off, leaving any protection in the gorge for more than 24 hours is illegal without consent from NPS. Secondly this route was rebolted by NRAC using glue-ins and placing a fixed draw on any of the bolts is going to become one more thing that NRAC would have to maintain because then people would start lowering off of it if they couldn't do the move.

Sport climbing at the gorge almost always requires a stick clip, and without one of those you run into issues like you have. Either onsight it... more >>

Comments: Have you tried New River Mountain Guides out of WaterStone? If you know how to climb safely and are experienced enough then just do what everyone else does and buy a guidebook, and head to the crag. Mikey does an amazing job with his guidebooks and they are extremely easy to use.

Comments: The third bolt on this thing is fine. I just tightened it down with a wrench and added more goop.

Comments: The third bolt on this route gets hammered by people falling on it. With the angle of the fall, it can sometimes move the hanger and cause the nut to get loose.

Comments: I completely agree with you on this and this is on my list to rebolt. Everything else out there is fairly new and done by people that aren't part of the main NRG rebolting community.

Comments: BETA-SPRAY.

I have seen numerous people whip off of the top of this climb. It's really not harder than 5.10 once you have the beta below.

After you clip the last bolt you can pull back under the roof and get a good lefthand hand jam rest in the horizontal. From here I switch around my hands, and reach up over the lip to a good horizontal and then match. Throw a left heel up and reach up to an incut left hand side pull. Turn your heel into a toe, stand up and hand foot match your right foot th... more >>

Comments: There is very little crack climbing on Big Bang. I did all of one hand-jam (flared through the crux), and one finger lock after the crux. Don't be as intimidated on this thing as I once was.

Comments: From your pictures it looks like this climbs skull in the stone but skips the crux since the water is up. I'm going to walk this cliff line with your pictures when the water comes down in the next few weeks and if this is in fact a new route then I will contact you about coming to bolt/lead it. Otherwise it's coming down.

The same goes for all of your other DWS routes.

On another note do you know what R actually stands for in climbing? And why is this route marked as trad if you didn't do it ... more >>

Comments: I have seen two people, both solid 5.12 climbers, fall on this thing between the first and second bolt because of the rock breaking. Be CAREFUL going to the second bolt. If you blow up you will more than likely hit the ground. It could really use another bolt between 1 and 2.
