Finishing a great problem. The first time I did this one it was 106F and nearly burned my hands. Photo: Kreidel Collection

Comments: All you do is climb a VO crack horizontally. Seriously though, the handjams in the roof are near perfect hands for most. Toward the transition some of them become a bit flared. The crux is at the end of course; things start to get a bit awkward working out the body mechanics.

Comments: This is a fair bit harder than VO but it wouldn't let me skip that part. Excellent jamming in this roof.

Comments: The crux comes early and you get a full lay-down rest after. Honestly, this feels more like 11+ but I'm probably just stirring the nest. Terrific jugs almost the whole way so it's all about endurance. Did the first gear onsight and skipped the last bolt/placement. Heard that the last undercling popped, which would make things a bit different.

Comments: A2? Really? I thought the placements were very A1, but then again maybe I just missed the bad ones:) Either way, MANK!

Comments: I aid-soloed this thing a while back. It would probably go free at 5.11+ or something would be my guess. The rock is crap, and not at all worth the effort of getting back there.

Comments: Paul, your feeling was right; FA was Dave Baker and Mike McEwan. Apparently back at that time Mike was hooked on the chicken seasoning of the same name.

Comments: There is a crack in this feature that goes all the way through, and to the crack-addict may be too much to pass up. While it looks like nice hands, it turns out to be cupped to fists and is way crumbly. Maybe 5.8ish. Also unless you plan on replacing the webbing that's up there it may be easiest to just downclimb.

Comments: As fun of a roof-crack that you'll find in any part of the country. Don't let the grade fool you, it's well worth the effort. Watching someone TR this and whip outta the base of the roof is hilarious!

Comments: One of the classic trad lines in the canyon. Quite striking when you first come up the trail. Gotta love a crux at the end.

Comments: This is a super-fun route. Probably not as hard as WMA who's crux is thin hands, this has a big hands crux. A must do for he gearhead.

Comments: I was wondering if anyone would want to go to Yosemite and to aid The Nose with me. I'm planning on taking several weeks and placing pitons all over the place, 'cuz hey, that's how the first ascensionist did it. And what's with all these people trying to free-climb El Cap anyway? Don't they know they can get up the thing much easier if they stand in aiders?

Comments: I never said anything about not breaking my neck. So far from the few times I've been on this I do know that the pro on this route is good although will require precision placing it. I don't have all of the gear placements memorized, or even fully worked out, but I'm probably not going to TR it anymore. Many whippers will be taken, but the gear will keep me off the ground so that should be good enough.

I feel strongly that a route such as this, even with tricky gear could, and will get onsighte... more >>

Comments: Did this at night in Oct. with no moon and could still see quite well just by the lights of the city. A really neat way to experience this classic.

Comments: While it is true that this is "one of the few cracks of it's kind" on ML, I would not go as far as to call it a "gem" or "high quality". Nice things about it are that it's five minutes from the car and takes gear well, so you can use it as a stepping stone to longer, harder lines. Oh, and compared to other cracks of this kind 11- is strecthing it.

Comments: I found the protection on this route to be quite different than what this description implies. There is only one bolt, but it is near the top of the route, and though it might be possible to hang out and fiddle in some small stuff, this isn't the greatest spot to camp out and finesse the tiny brass and cams that someone left some parts out of (my attempt at a TCU joke). More than likely you'll clip the bolt and gun it to the chains; sure it's far...they don't call it ScArizona for noth... more >>

Comments: I got on this one yesterday and the bees are still there. I made the mistake of talking loudly into the hole and they didn't like it at all. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of a load of bees? This could be a very cool route otherwise.

Comments: Look for the dark-colored hangers. Interesting route. Good rock. Watch out for the little cacti high on the route.
