Comments: It's best to try and stay high on the south slope of the basin.

Comments: There is no Northeast Ridge. But there is an East Ridge - and this looks like the view from there.

Comments: Best practice is to TR when completely dry. Perhaps I should've written "placements which seem bomber" - but that's semantics no? In my case I was demo-ing a "solid" #10 Hex placement in that nice dark rock, it was a beautiful slotted piece - a 1 foot plate, 6 inches thick blew off from one side and dumped me on the ground.

Comments: If you lead them it will be at your own risk - even bomber placements (see Guy's post) will almost certainly blow. There's not a big tradition of leading here. The climbs are forever changing - it's the only certainty at Stoney Point. So best practice is to TR when completely dry.

Comments: Great job! You continue to justify my statement that for back country rock climbs the High Sierra has barely been scratched. Are you going to post your Mt. King climb?

Comments: Vitaly, is this Lake 10859 to the east of Gardiner Pass?

If so - did you camp in the basin west of the peak?

Comments: There were four of us - so we used 2x 60m ropes to rappel down from the v-notch. I think this put us very close to the Kain Route.

Comments: I still use a double-fisherman's knot, I've been using it for 40 years and it's served me well, I have only had a stuck rope once in that time and it wasn't the knot - there's a trick to untying it fairly easily. I'd be interested in getting data for how often a knot prevents a pull. A good trick is to have the first person down try and retrieve the rope, this will reveal any s... more >>

Comments: Looks suspiciously like "Quicksilver". So I'm going to rename it unless there's historical proof that this name is older than Quicksilver, which doesn't seem likely considering the originating movie was released in 2008 and Quicksilver is from the early 90's.

Comments: Nice double rope threading - I mean it; one doesn't see a lot of this in the US. Even if an extra rope is required for rappel almost all US climbers just clip the extra rope onto their haul loop, or worse; onto the harness gear rack.

So this is good to see.
