Comments: Went here in January 2015. We took the boat, which was fun, but if you're on a budget, find someone to show you how to hike there (or explore on your own). We didn't hike, but a guy we met did and said from the place we were staying (El Cabito), it was maybe an hour hike. If you stay in Galeras, that would probably be 1.5 hour hike, maybe a bit longer.

The routes up the black overhanging rock look fun and burly, but the hangers and bolts all look old and I wouldn't trust the hardware or the roc... more >>

Comments: This would be 3 stars if not for the huge ledge breaking up the very fun tufa climbing below from the crux head wall above.

I graded 11+ because with the right beta the holds seem big enough that 12a isn't quite warranted.

Comments: You may want to pre-clip the first draw from the upper ledge if you are not sure you can do the opening sequence. It's not too hard, but the fall would be onto uneven rocks below.

Comments: Went to the Frey in Dec 2013. There's not a lot to do in town, but I can recommend two restaurants: Alto del Fuego and La Marca, both near Club Andino. Great food at both spots.

Comments: Did this Dec 2013. I recommend doing it in one pitch.

Comments: Did this Dec 2013. Fantastic climb. BETA ALERT: The beginning is a little spicy: the climbing is not too hard, but there is little pro. I got a stopper in off the belay, then slung a nice flake. You have to pull into the dihedral before you get more gear, so without the slung flake, you are looking at a nasty deck fall. I recommend a nice thick nylon runner for slinging the flake. Once in the dihedral, it's a great route on quality stone.

Comments: Hanger on the roof was spinning. I hand tightened the nut as much as possible, but it definitely needs a wrench. There was a guy going up after me who may have borrowed a wrench and tightened it, but I'm not sure.

Comments: I haven't bouldered a whole lot, but this seemed very rough for V3 unless you're an awesome crack climber (which I'm not). If that crux were 40 feet up a climb, I'd expect it go at least 5.12a. Super aesthetic!
