Comments: As of April 17,2016. The steeper portions of this looked climbable between snowfields on cold days.

Comments: It's been a while since I was there (like a decade) but i thought there was an established parking area and blazing new trails into the desert was kind of forbidden. Most people camp by the upper sandcove or lower sandcove reservoirs nearby. I can't imagine "getting a run at it" with your burly 4wd vehicle left no trace on the way out.

Comments: If you get skunked on the ice due to warming temps, the rock climb "air to spare" faces south and might be a good alternative(rock shoes, 12 draws, cams .5"-2", few slings).

On the right day it's probably possible to do the ice climb then the rock climb in the same day.

Please pardon the shameless crag promotion but air to spare is a fun climb. . .

Comments: There is a 2 or 3 pitch route that climbs up into the maw under the big roof that was pretty fun. Starts left of candyland. Bolts appeared where you needed them. It was the first route my friends and I climbed out there. It was a decade before mountain project so there was plenty of climbing into the unknown. Such a pretty place especially for climbers.

Comments: NOLS teaches multi week climbing classes on the granite out there. I think JG also put some routes on the granite. Fun place to go up and see what you find. We found many routes had A0 sections through the hardest parts so they were pretty manageable to go up.

Comments: Unfortunately these are not very close to each other. Air to Spare is up a talus slope left of the trail (south facing) and Ad Astra Per Aspera is up a talus slope on the right (west facing). They do both share the same steep ass hill above the parking lot on the approach trail but that's about it. If you were quick and were a glutton for talus it could be done.

It's south facing and sun hits mid morning most of the year I'd imagine. We climbed on a day that hit 97 in SLC and the route was p... more >>

Comments: Start at the toe of the prominent south facing arĂȘte up and left of the ice climb approach and ride it over prows, cracks and airy faces for 5 pitches. One full 60m rope, a dozen draws and some slings and one set of cams .5"-2" should do. Low crux then enjoy the voyage.

Approach as for ice climbs and ad Astra. Stay on the trail well past the formation and make one long jagged traverse back up below the lower cliffs and then up to the toe of the arĂȘte. Lots of other rock to look at this way t... more >>

Comments: Casual and delicious. The luscious looseness that adds spice to the blah is becoming an endangered species on this one. Enjoy it while it lasts.
