My buddy reprimanded me for sticking my neck out on it and rightly so. We had agreed on a fun trip and the second tower was hard to pass on. Staggering Rock was a classic case of venturing into rarely traveled terrain.

We hiked over to Staggering Rock and just a look at the north face revealed that the character would be quite different. Indeed, it is far more serious and the second pitch was probably the most serious free climbing I have done in many years. It requires a wide range of gear for the free climbing and I used a triple set of brass offsets on the thin clean aid, primarily the larger ones. We used TCUS, Aliens, etc. This is a heads-up route but is enjoyable for experienced parties. The "death blocks" can be avoided by staying to the right but it is awkward to traverse in from the left. Having done this route many times, it should be noted that the quality of the crux placements (third pitch) is diminishing. In fact, immediately off the third belay, the crack leading to the first fixed piece is getting very worn. It readily goes clean but hammering destroys the clean placements.
