Comments: Dale Haas and I replaced the two bolts with cold shut hangers at the top of the second pitch with Powers 5-piece SS bolts and SS Fixe hangers. We added SS quicklinks and SS rap rings. The hardware for this work was provided by the American Safe Climbing Association(ASCA - www.safeclimbing.org). They appreciate your support.

Comments: Dale Haas and I removed the two cold shut anchors at the top of pitch 3. We added a Powers 5-piece SS bolt and Fixe double ring hanger to complement the SS Triplex wedge bolt and Fixe double ring hanger added by Darren Mabe and Casey Bernal.

We also replaced the cold shut hangers and plated bolts at the pitch 4 anchor with Powers SS bolts and Fixe double ring hangers.

Now, the anchors at the top of pitches 2, 3, and 4 all have SS bolts and SS hardware.

The hardware for this project was provid... more >>

Comments: Dale Haas and I tightened all the anchor bolts on the eight anchors we replaced in June 2013. A couple bolts were loose, one on Skimbleshanks and one on Old Deuteronomy. The rest were fine.

Comments: Dale Haas and I tightened the anchor bolts on this route. In fact, we tightened the anchor bolts on all eight anchors we replaced in June 2013 at this crag.

Comments: The last pitch of White Trash provides a nice, moderate alternative to the last pitch of Euro trash. Clip the first couple of bolts of Euro Trash, place some pro in the dihedral/crack on the left then traverse up and right to the first bolt of the third pitch of White Trash.

Comments: There is a variation to the final pitch of Euro Trash called Europop which keeps the climbing in the same moderate range of the first three pitches.

Comments: I believe the name for this route comes from the mythical "Seven Cities of Gold" in the Mexican desert also known as 'Cibola'.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Ci...

In that vein the route name should actually be 'Cibola.'

Comments: Lenny,

The 5-piece bolt in the photo you show at the base of the pitch 3 belay is not stainless steel. It is plated steel. You can tell by the three lines on the head which indicates it is Grade 5 carbon steel.

Comments: As a bit of history, this crag used to be a bit shorter in height. In the mid-80's they excavated dirt from the base to make it taller.

Comments: Dale Haas and I braved bullets to replace the homemade hangers on this climb with SS Fixe. We also replaced the homemade hanger on the lone anchor bolt climber's left of the anchor. The American Safe Climbing Association (ASCA - www.safeclimbing.org) provided the hardware for this project, though I am not sure the gear was NRA-approved.

Comments: Dale Haas and I luckily survived from being shot while replacing the one homemade hanger at the start and the two homemade hangers at the anchor with Fixe SS. The American Safe Climbing Association(ASCA - www.safeclimbing.org) provided the hardware, but unfortunately not bullet-proof vests, for this project.

Comments: There are a number of new routes in this area that have Fixe hangers painted dark brown and use twisted 3/8" quicklinks for rappel anchors. Hopefully, the FA team will add the requisite information to the Mountain Project database.

Nice to see the stuff I put up there 12 years ago (plated 5/16" quicklinks + link of 3/8" chain) was in OK shape, but stainless is better.

Comments: Dale Haas and I replaced the first bolt (cold shut hanger) on this route with a SS Powers Power-Bolt (AKA 5-piece) and SS Fixe hanger.

Also, we added quicklinks and 3 links of 3/8" chain to each anchor bolt at the start of the route to help with the rappel.

The hardware for this work was provided by the American Safe Climbing Association (ASCA-www.safeclimbing.org). They appreciate your support.

Comments: Dale Haas and I replaced the worn cold shuts at the belay on pitch 2 with SS Powers Power-Bolts (AKA 5-piece). We added SS quicklinks and SS rings to the new bolts.

We also added SS quicklinks and SS rings to the belay at the top of pitch 1. Someone else had replaced the cold shuts on this anchor with regular hangers.

Lastly, we replaced the cold shut hanger on the first bolt of this route with a SS Fixe hanger.

Comments: Dale Haas and I replaced the four bolts on this climb with 3/8" SS Powers Power-Bolts (AKA 5-piece). Most people only clip the first three bolts when doing this route. The fourth bolt is about 20 feet up and slightly left of the anchor shared by Chouette and Splash.

Comments: I think it is very important to point out that this area is a *designated* area for gun enthusiasts with signs indicating that shooting is permitted. This isn't just an area where people come to party, congregate, or camp and sometimes someone brings a gun. This area is *designated* for shooting so expect people to be there shooting, and since there is no specific gun range, expect them to be shooting near you and hopefully not at you!

Comments: As of 5/30/15, there was a fixed pin (knifeblade) which offered protection just after traversing under the roof on the left-hand variation of P1.
