Comments: I saw one on the direct approach to the Finger back in 1992. He didn't seem to mind us, he watched us scramble up for quite some time.

The sheep are gone, therefore the rule no longer applies.

PS I was told by the state park rangers that only 3 rangers have authority to enforce that old law, and they are in Flagstaff.

Comments: Jeff, thanks for the post. We were hiking around out there a few months ago, wondering where the route started. Thanks for the recent work, not to mention the fa.

Monsoon season; 1992. My buddy Steve and I set out after work on Friday to bag User Friendly. It started raining hard within minutes, undeterred we pushed on. About half way in we set up camp. It rained all night. Bummed out, we slept in. When we got up, the clouds parted, revealing the massive dome. We decided to walk up th... more >>

Comments: Full Circle does have some run-outs; mostly on easier terrain, there is some route finding and some tricky placements, and a death bloc on pitch 2, but the route is mostly great rock with great pro. The bolts look as new as they did in 95. We did not use the #3 or any tricams.

We did it in 4 pitches. The last pitch; up the aerate was 215' although you could unclip and walk up. It is better to belay about 20' past the crux; you can step down into the gully and... more >>

Comments: It was 1994, I was standing at the crux of the big Sleep, several hundred feet off the ground, I heard a voice "go right laddy buck". Could it be a voice from the gods.....Indeed it was, it was the legendary backcountry guru, Karl Rickson. He was watching us (over us) climb his route from way down in the valley below us. We were in the Stronghold to attend his bean fest.

I returned to climb the Big Sleep in 2012. My friend Scotty Mac and I had a great time enjoying the perfect conditions. We f... more >>

Comments: Nice find, thanks for the good routes and great anchores.

one more correction to the beta; the routes are in the shade in the am, the wall faces west/south west.

you can not see the climbs from the road, but you can see the large sunny cliff right above the climbing area from the road.

I liked Do Not Enter, however it felt a little harder than 8.
The 7+ was ok, but I would not recommend it to 5.7 leader.

This a dog friendly place less the cholla. even had some water.

Comments: Wilderness of Rocks Dome, AKA, Twin Peaks, Mystery, North Dome is located below the antenna at the top of the road past Ski Valley.
You can see the back of it from just below the road.

Approach it from Marshal Gulch. It is about 20 min past Primus Wall (aka trailside craig)
www.mountainproject.com/v/primus-wall/107400487
When the trail starts to head down to the south, and you are about even with the low angle slab on the hill to your right, look for a large pine tree and a route to th... more >>

Comments: last week we did a hike up to the spring ( on the back-side ) to see what piping repairs are needed.

we then continued up and found that someone has build a really nice trail from the spring to the saddle. about a 30 min. section of trail, that probably saves 10 min off the old route.

i think it may be hunters that did the work, but it sure does help climbers. the trail to Table is basically complete now.

I sure would like to thank the persons responsible.

we did see large mountain lion scat... more >>

Comments: nice job Charles on the pima canyon side beta, your the man.

i have done the shin-dagger ridge as have many 1st timers. definitely do not recommend it.

we did the proper approach, with full packs, in 2 hrs once, but i was much younger then.

there is a huge tank on the slabs up there, but it is in a state of disrepair. there is no water.

you can sometimes get water out of the decent gully or out of many wacos on the top after a rain.

this water is NOT reliable so bring plenty.

I would only ... more >>
