Comments: In the old red guide book, Joanne Urioste, who put up the route, describes the first pitch ending at the ledge in the photo. Ropes, and therefore pitches, were shorter then, but it still makes a nice place to stop and belay if you wish.
If the top of (the linked) P1 is another 150' above the climber wouldn't that make for a 250' pitch?

Comments: Chris (C Miller) is right, the original 1/4" bolt was replaced some time back with a 3/8" rawl 5-piece and metolius hanger.

Comments: A tip on finding the best approach - Hike up the canyon till you're about even with the left end of the Sandbox, then head up to the base of the route. With a little squinting, bolts are visible from the bottom of the route.
The first pitch takes a couple of gear placements then 5 bolts to a chain anchor. The second pitch has some gear placements, then three bolts, then a couple more final small gear pieces to a fourth bolt, which is really a directional for the follower, since the anchor is 15 ... more >>

Comments: Replacing this anchor is indeed a great charitable act. Apparently it had been originally established as the anchor for Sore Sirs before we put up Con Jurors. I remember being terrified rapping from it when we did the FA many years ago.

Comments: I'm thinking about renting the old ranch house at the entrance to Castle Rocks next summer for a group of friends to spend a week or so climbing at City and Castle Rocks.
Has anyone here rented this place? I would appreciate info from any folks who have stayed there, especially regarding the number of people that it can comfortably accomodate.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Comments: I believe if you read any of the information above you'll see he does have the good sense to use the name Trashcan Rock, as it has been known to climbers for decades.

Comments: They must be back again from last summer. I was stung four times at the rap anchor while helping with some bolt maintenence. The bites itched more than hurt, but it was still scary!
