Comments: Good intro to stronghold climbing, esp. runnering chickenheads. I'm 5'8 and thought the opening moves up and onto the slab were manageable.

Comments: I didn't use a grey Camalot on the start. Instead I usually step across from the block opposite the wall, and start right in on the business.

Comments: So I'm not sure where the idea that fees are unconstitutional came from and I REALLY don't know where the idea that the Forest Service is unconstitutional came from, but the only article in the Constitution that has anything to do with Congress's right to tax anybody is Article 1 Section 8:
"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, I... more >>

Comments: Maybe it's just me, but how exactly do you "close a forest?" It's not like you can lock the doors.
As for Rose Canyon, I might be wrong, but I think they charge the extra money because it was established as a special use area, and the Forest Service needed to pay Game and Fish for the stock fish that are put into the lake. I always thought a fishing licence covered that, but hey who knows.

Comments: As a non-fee paying Tucsonan, I agree with Greg. It seems that the only reason the fee is collected is to generate revenue for the Forest Service. They don't even man the fee collection booth most of the time. It is double-taxation because the Forest Service already receives my tax dollars in order to function. Not only that, but they pay subsidies for logging companies to clear cut forests in an effort to keep the forests "healthy." Charging fees for public use of public land is the same a... more >>

Comments: also if you want to wuss out you can escape to Endgame and finish on that route. The real rated R part comes on pitch 4 when if you were to land on the ledge after the HUGE runout. Pitch 3 is necky but looks like a clean fall.

Comments: What's My LIne isn't the only classic. If you're in the Stronghold, the best place to head is the Rockfellow group with stuff like Forest Lawn (5.9), Days of Future Past (5.9 R), Endgame (5.10), Abracadaver (5.11). etc. This area has tons of classics that would be plastered all over Climbing and Rock and Ice if you didn't have to do the stairmaster hike from hell to get there, but hey that's half the fun of climbing in Cochise. Be sure to check out westside classics like Moby Dick (5.8) and W... more >>
