Comments: This is a good route, funkier than M6 might imply. And, unlike many of the M-routes up here, you actually get to climb some good ice.

Comments: I don't think that is the Ear, that's the top of the sweet big hands pitch. The ear has bolts.

Comments: Couldn't find the bolts for the rap on this route and rapped from Clearlight's slung block anchor... it sucked swinging/pulling back to the Infrared anchor.

Comments: FWIW, the fixed rope will only get you halfway down the Chillumstone rap (it got chopped by a rock), but a single 70m rope is perfect. I talked to the ranger after our climb and he questioned us about the fixed line and wondered what we thought of a NPS fixed static line on that rap. My partner and I both said it would be a bad idea and he mentioned that Brent from the N. Rim also suggested against it. So, plan on using your own rope on the descent.

Comments: Great way to get some mileage. You can easily link every two pitches, as in P1+2, P3+4, P5+6... Single set of cams to 3" and some wires.

Comments: The first bolt used to be several feet higher, but the ground has actually risen under this route, hence the start is easier. That is why it's considered .12c now.

Comments: It's probably more like 100'. You'll just make it back to the ground when lowered from the anchor, watch the end of your rope!

Comments: I don't know how anyone could call it the best 1" crack seeing as it's only 1" for about 25'. Maybe... it's a great .75" and 1" crack that has a fist pod and some less than vertical .5" that totals less than 50'. Now that'd be more accurate.

Comments: Jesus Christ people...it was meant as a joke, didn't you notice the "Sorry, I couldn't resist" disclaimer at the end. Anyway, I too am a fan of history having climbed with a certain Eldo FA'ist from the '70s quite a bit- I won't drop any names, but his initials are A.H., see if you supposed history buffs can decipher my cryptic message! Extra credit for not naming him but listing his most notable FAs in Eldo and elsewhere. DISCLAIMER: for you extremely uncreative minds out there- "see if you sup... more >>
