There are a couple variations you can do to the Wasteland summit, I believe. My partner chose this curvaceous little crack; despite the earthy grunge in the foreground, it is actually an enjoyable, albeit short, finish with fun smears and fingers.
March 2007

"911, what's your emergency?"

"Yes, there is a man-eating rock on the loose...I managed to beat it to submission for the time being but there's no telling what it could do next! Please! Hurry and bring your biggest Hilti, 10 pounds of chain, and several Fixe bolts!" *

(* No rock was actually harmed in the making of this post. A handful of ancient Salado ruins exist in the Sierra Ancha. Here I sit in the doorway to an airy rock "porch" off a multi-story cliff dwelling. Inside, 700 year old wooden beams still cross the roof in some places and a few other artifacts remain unpilfered.

The hike is strenuous and the route finding somewhat difficult to access this remote gem. The Salado people weren't kidding around when they decided to build this thing.

May 2008
