Comments: And let's not forget the bolts that are half-correded from multiple seasons of water seepage. Makes every bolt feel like a time-bomb.

Comments: I went up this route the other day and concur that's there's a terrifying hollow sound you hear reefing on that section at 2/3 height. Unsure whether the block(s) will actually come off but I sure won't sunbathe underneath this route from now on.

Comments: We're talking about the same boulder but I think we're approaching it from different directions, perhaps. Just goes to show how verbal directions/descriptions can be so confusing while a topo/map could speak a thousand words.

Comments: Anyone have a good idea when the road for Independence Pass will open this year? I was planning on hooking up with some friends there in early May.

Comments: The two left most routes may have a broken bolt. They are Nuttin' But Button (12c) and Bambi (12d). I know one of them had a bolt break a few years ago and I'm unsure which route it happened on. I don't think it's been replaced. It's also possible that both routes may be affected because they share some bolts . Use caution up there..

Comments: Yeah, you're probably right. We had to clean the rock a bit and pulled off a lot of junk rock but the problem had probably been done previously.

Comments: I think John Sherman did the FA but then the loose block on the north face has since fallen off. That makes the starting moves of the traverse a bit harder. I'm not entirely sure if it's been sent since (it's probably been done). It's a damn fine problem.

Comments: There was a public meeting put on last night by Larimer County Parks to discuss the "improvements" they are doing up at Horsetooth. They recently enlarged the parking lot for Rotary Park, installed picnic tables, and built a bathroom. They did all that with grant money. But now they need to maintain those facilities which means charging $6/day or $65/year. This is the same agency that runs Carter Lake so a season pass would be good at both areas.

Most everyone at the meeting was extremely piss... more >>

By: Adam Holmes When: Jan 30, 2004

Comments: I saw a cool looking variation to Hank's Lunge the other day. It doesn't use the large obvious right hand hold (Jay's using it in the picture below for the standard version of the Lunge). Instead utilize small crimps on the face, somewhat left of the normal line. Some of the holds are shared with the Lunge version. The line should be fairly obvious as long as you don't use that large right hand hold I've mentioned. It looked hard but might be easier for those that are better at crimping dow... more >>

Comments: I saw this rated as V3 in Benningfield's guide. I wasn't trying to uprate the Scoop when I placed it in the database. I just honestly didn't know the grade and made a guess. It's probably V3 for most people but V5 for people like me who have the flexibilty of a steel rod.

Comments: How do you link a guidebook with an area?? Some areas on this database, such as Rifle, have 2 or 3 guidebooks listed under the area description but the Vedauwoo section has no guides listed. Heel/Toe and Fat Crack Country should be linked to that page. It would also be great if some of the older historical guides could be listed for each area, like Layne Kopischka's old guidebooks for Vedauwoo. Someone out there must have old an old copy that you could scan the cover and send in.

Comments: The standard topout goes straight up after hitting that jug. But traversing left at the jug may be a fun variation. I'll have to try that next time.

Comments: This is listed as a Modified Route, however, I don't believe that it is....did somebody go in and add that, or did I accidentally list it as such when I added it to the database??

"When you emerge from the pines keep an eye out on your RIGHT for a rusty pipe sticking out of the rock."

Comments: Someone's used glue on this problem. I'm not anti-glue but the section of rock glued is not even a part used to do the problem. The glue does not reinforce any hand or footholds. It's 100% completely unneccessary. Why deface one of the most famous boulder problems in America???

Comments: A 60 meter rope got me to the ground in one rap from the top (but barely). You should be able to see your ends near the ground before you commit to this.

Comments: This route has been rebolted by someone and they've done a pretty good job of it. Most of the bolts have been repositioned. Great route which deserves more traffic.

Comments: I thought the FA on this line was Craig Leubben and he even got written up in one of the mags for it. Or maybe it was just the 2nd ascent. Either way, this is a very impressive looking route that I never want to climb.

By: Adam Holmes When: Oct 22, 2002

Comments: Jim, sounds like you did the FA. Did you name the route anything? I named it Ken T'ank based on the name that was written on chalk at the base of the route. That name may refer to the left variation. I don't know. I think in Rolofson's guide the route was called listed as "Fission (AKA: Ken Tanks)".
