Comments: These are my notes almost verbatim on this route. Herb and I did this in 1987. I lead pitches 1,2 and 4. Herb lead #3.
1) Start in a left facing corner and follow the crack that splits the overhanging block 10c/d. Belay on ledge.
2) Climb up 10 ft. to bulge then head left around corner and up crack 10d to the quartz dike. Belay in the right crack.c
3) Head up to the wide crack which can be avoided by climbing around it at 10c. It becomes a fist then a fantastic hand crack. Follow this unti... more >>

Comments: Cool move at the crux. Second bolt should be a foot lower or stick clip a draw to it. I had to do a crazy extra move to clip it as I am 5'6". If Tif can't touch the hanger it is too high! Drill them at your elbow Luke. Upper part is fun but if your tips are tender it is less fun. I have a few more things if you are interested in some constructive criticism Luke. Having said all that it is worth doing because the crux and the upper arete are cool.

Comments: I traversed in from the left as I would have had to stack boulders to reach the holds the way you drew it in.

Comments: Kevin Carmichael and Scott McNamara paid for the hardware on these routes so that novice climbers could get on the sharp end. I don't think there is a better beginning leader wall.

Comments: A tad reachy if you are 5'6" but fun. you can wander a bit right or go straight up to one of the bolts. I wandered right then back as JMo did. He later TR'd it straight up to the bolt and said it was really good too.

Comments: 48 inch sling on any pro in the hand crack would not be a bad idea. It was manageable with a shoulder length on a single piece about half way up the hand crack. My first route at Volunteer and it was a great introduction. Nice find Darren.

Comments: Well Kevin, what would you call it then? Brad, sprad, trort? It sounds like you are saying it is a sport route with a little bit of gear. Then of course it is not a sport route it is a trad route. I have been climbing trad routes with bolts on them my whole life which is why I posted it as a trad route. Perhaps what you were trying to say is that it is a really fun trad route because you don't have to lug 20 lbs. of crap up the cliff. Glad you had fun.

Comments: I bolted and led this yesterday with Jimbo. It is really good. Too short for 3 stars but great movement not necessarily bolt to bolt. Micro edges, a jug or two, side pulls, an undercling a pinch and a gaston. They don't get much more interesting.

Comments: Thus the name Jon Ruland. It is also the site of one of Mt. Lemmon's fatalities. Place bomber pro, it is there, or don't fall off! Hope you heal up quickly Jon.

Comments: We went up past the spike then up to the right as is had more gear for an anchor. This route was done before cams and that make it very impressive.

Comments: The fact there isn't a line to do this route every weekend blows my mind. The rock could be a little more sound but the angle makes it safe if you did pop a hold off.

Comments: Serious sandbag? Is it 5.11-? No, okay, then it is a little off. Plus or minus a letter or two is not a serious sandbag John. I suggest you consult with Don Buland before posting Jon! ;)

Comments: Have to agree with John H. Those of you who have climbed there know, this is a very special place. The we have the ability to preserve access to it for us now and future generations is more than a responsibility to me it's an honor. Thanks for posting this up John.

Comments: At the ledge about half way up the bolt is an exciting clip above a ledge. My tall partner had no problem but I was happy to put the finger sized cams I didn't use at the start in a crack at the ledge. The next bolt is fifteen feet down so if you were to pop off clipping and bounce of the ledge you would take a 30-40 footer. if you are 5' 10" or so you might be able to clip it from the ledge. Upper wall is great!

Comments: Never a good idea to jug a stuck rope. It is easy to walk around to the top and rap in. If you had another rope to climb Swept... you could have led Rapture again. Glad you didn't hit anything.
