I didn't get any shots of us climbing this day (too busy belaying), but this image shows something of the angle, quality and bolting of the rock.

Sat standing near the summit of Crown Mountain with the Hanes Valley in the background. The detached rock formation over his right shoulder is "The Camel." While this is primarily a great hiking destination, there are a number of rock routes on the camel as well as a long one called "The Widowmaker Arete" coming up from Hanes Valley. This is climbing that is technically accessible by public transit from anywhere in Vancouver since you can get to the base of Grouse Mountain by bus, take the tram up, and then hike the two or three hours to Crown Mountain.

Looking up at Crown Pass from the Hanes Valley. From the pass, Crown Mountain is on the right, Grouse Mountain on the left. This snowfield is quite a bit bigger than it looks in the picture and can be fun to kick steps up if the conditions are right and can last into June. In March and April this area is quite dangerous due to the very deep snow being undercut by water running along the ground. Numerous injuries and rescues have resulted from people planning to hike the Hanes Valley loop and not realizing that even if there's no snow at the trailhead it can be very serious up to the pass. A few years ago there was a rescue of fifteen or so people from a school hiking group.

Ted Lawson finishing the return trip along the traverse. The person at the upper left of the image is not at the start of the downclimb; the downclimb starts down and left of him. The knotted rope is just visible if you look carefully.

If you miss the turnoff on the trail and you continue up the main trail, this is where you end up. This picture is looking southeast over Indian Arm. Belcarra is on the far shore and on the right horizon you see the buildings of Burnaby or Port Moody, just east of Simon Fraser University.

The Capilano Suspension bridge in North Vancouver. A nice rest-day activity, but not cheap. The Lynn Creek suspension bridge is a nice free alternative.

The greenery hides it in this picture, but it's quite a deep canyon.
