Armin Gooden near a/the crux. Note, without info, it is not obvious how to finish the route. It is easy to get drawn to finish on Water Spirit.

This is not really a new anchor, but a more useful anchor above a narrow ledge, 40 feet above the final 2-ring anchor on Wings of Desire. This anchor is useful if one wishes to finish Kama Sutra, Tree of Life or Wings of Desire at the top of the wall.

To rappel from this anchor with a single 200-foot rope, it is (I think) necessary to rap to the anchors at the tops of Wings of Desire or Kama Sutra, then down again to the 2-ring anchor atop the first pitch of Kama Sutra. Then one more time (about 70 feet) to Ledge Two.

NOTE: It is not possible (with a 200-foot rope) to rappel all the way to the first 2-ring anchor on Kama Sutra and make Ledge Two in just 2 raps. It takes 3 raps to reach Ledge 2 from this anchor at the top of the wall.

Richard making the first lead of the Tree of Life. The weather was on the offense as usual. It rains or snows every weekend right? We had snow flurries and very cold fingers for the Tree of Life.

Joan Johns retreats from Kama Sutra in yet another thunderstorm. Does it rain in August or what? It took two tries, but the route is now very clean.

RR returns to the source after 8 years to re-experience the unique routes on Sleeping Beauty. Walk On The Wide Side is in pretty good shape. A fun climb on excellent rock. 5.9, 115 feet to the ring anchor. Do not lower off unless your rope is longer than 200 feet. Photo: Joan "Pebby" Johns.

This view looks down the North Trail from the belay for Jungle of Stone and Black Rain. This trail was cleared and partially rebuilt in the first week of August, 2006 and makes the north side approach a piece of cake.

As Pebby and I came down the North Trail after 6 hours of trail work, we were surprised to find 4 people roping/psyching up to do Lightspeed. The large blue thing in the photo is a picnic cooler full of beer (Lone Star Ale). I think this attests to the quality of the trails at this time. Pebby and I have worked hard to reopen Sleeping Beauty so that more climbers will visit and experience this great crag.
